SELF-HELP LEGAL CLINICS

Families Living Violence Free (125 Oxford Outer Loop Rd, Oxford, NC) has partnered with Legal Aid of North Carolina to bring do-it-yourself clinics local to Oxford, North Carolina. Legal Aid of North Carolina’s free do-it-yourself legal clinics educate people about their rights and empower them to handle certain basic legal issues without the help of a lawyer. Participants receive all the guidance and paperwork necessary to walk out of the clinic and into the courthouse. Clinics are hosted monthly or quarterly at Legal Aid offices, churches, community centers and other locations throughout North Carolina. All clinics are completely free, but advance registration is required due to space limitations at most locations. Participants receive general legal information only. No specific advice is given on individual cases.

                      SIMPLE DIVORCE CLINIC

3rd Thursday of each month beginning at 2:30

Legal Aid of North Carolina’s free simple divorce clinic teaches participants how to file a simple divorce action in court without hiring an attorney. Families Living Violence Free will provide participants with a free packet with legal documents upon arrival to the clinic. At the end of the clinic, participants can ask general questions to volunteer attorney. Specific legal advice is not provided at these clinics.

        CHILD CUSTODY AND VISITATION CLINIC

2nd Tuesday of each month beginning at 2:30

Legal Aid of North Carolina’s free child custody clinic teaches participants how to file a child custody action in court without an attorney. We will also discuss visitation. Families Living Violence Free will provide participants with a free packet with legal documents upon arrival to the clinic.

Attend Legal Aid of North Carolina’s free Employee Rights Clinic to learn about your rights under North Carolina law and federal law. Topics include employment at will, right to work, discrimination, retaliation, and unemployment benefits. We will give you a packet of legal information, and you will watch an informational video. A volunteer attorney will be available to answer general questions.

Attend Legal Aid of North Carolina’s free Social Security Disability Clinic to learn about the types of adult Social Security Disability benefits, how to qualify, the application process, and what you will need to show to prove that you are entitled to benefits. At the clinic, you will watch an instructional video.
