Families Living Violence Free Welcomes New Youth Advocate, Megan Holmes!

“Megan Holmes is a very welcome addition to our FLVF family,” Hurst said. “She brings knowledge, passion, and a fierce desire to faithfully serve our clients, and she will do great things for the community that we all help every day here in Granville County.”

Holmes is a graduate of North Carolina Central University with a degree in Social Work and a minor in Spanish. She was an active advocate for youth in out-of-home care throughout North Carolina with SAYSO, Inc. She has previously served as a Match Support Specialist with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Triangle in Morrisville, in addition to various positions with the Pitt County Department of Social Services and the Durham Housing Authority.

“Megan will be heading up our W.A.V.E. program next year in the Granville County school system, helping our students to Wipe out Abuse and Violence through Education,” Hurst stated. “She will also counsel, advocate, and intervene for all of our clients, just as we all do,” he continued. Holmes will undergo extensive training in all areas of domestic violence and sexual assault advocacy in the coming weeks, including in-house training here and academy work in Durham and in Raleigh through the North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the North Carolina Victim Assistance Network.

“With the addition of Megan Holmes as our Youth Advocate, we are looking forward to getting our message out to even more people. Megan will bring energy and the ability to connect with the youth and the adults here, and to enlist their help in eradicating the horror of domestic violence and sexual assault in our communities,” Hurst concluded.
